Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the data in the form, plus your IP address and browser user-agent, to help with spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to see if you have a profile photo. After approval, your name and photo appear with the comment. See Gravatar’s privacy policy.
Cookies. Comments may offer to save your name, email, and site in a cookie so you do not retype them. That cookie lasts about a year. If you visit the login page, WordPress sets a temporary cookie to test whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and is discarded when you close the browser. When you log in, WordPress also sets login cookies.
Media. If you upload images, avoid files with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images and read that data.
Analytics and hosting. Our host and any analytics we use may log standard request data (pages viewed, approximate location, device). We use that to run and improve the site.
Email. If you join a list or contact us, we keep the address and message you sent so we can reply and, if you opted in, send the list. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time.

Embedded content

Articles may include embedded content (YouTube, social posts, and the like). Those embeds behave as if you visited the other site. They may collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction, including if you have an account there and are logged in.

How long we keep it

Comments and their metadata stay indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. Registered-user data stays in their profile. Site owners can see and edit that information.

Your rights

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and you can ask us to erase it. That does not include data we must keep for admin, legal, or security reasons.

Where we send data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service. We do not sell your personal information.
